Configuring VertX Reader Modes
Hardware Manager Configuring VertX Reader Modes The VertX hardware platform including the Edge plus hardware devices are capable of the following pin functions: NOTE: When using a combination reader that makes use of both card and pin in a single reader and the card and pin feature will be used, it is imperative that the readers keypad be configured with an eight (8) bit burst in order for the keypad function to work properly.
- Card only Using this function the card may be presented or using the keypad the card holder may enter the full card number for access.
- Card and pin Requires the card holder to present the card and enter the four (4) digit user defined pin before access can be granted.
NOTE: These features are available only while using the Enterprise Access Control software application; if the Web Access Control Security software is used, the complete card number will need to be entered on the keypad. In the event the Web Access Control software is used and the customer requires keypad use the keypad will need to be configured for 26 bit. Configuring Card and Pin Note: Once the reader has been configured for the card and pin reader mode, the card must be presented as well as the pin entered in order for access to be granted.
- From Hardware Manager click on the pad lock icon to allow editing of the Hardware Manager module.
- From the Hardware tree click on the plus sign to the left of the controller to expand the devices listed below the controller.
- Highlight the sub-controller, click on the plus sign to the left of the sub-controller to expand the sub-controller properties.
- Click on the reader. From the readers properties box, click on the drop down arrow to the right of the Default_Reader_Mode tag and select 7 - Card and Pin.
- Click the floppy disk icon to save changes.
- From the hardware tree, highlight the controller. Right mouse-click on the controller and select Download Manager.
- In the Database column, select Controllers and Devices and uncheck all remaining databases.
- Click begin download. Once the download has completed, the reader mode should be reflected as a 7 in the hardware status screen. This mode is reflected in box three (3) located to the right of the device type. For example on a V100 it would be reflected as the hardware physical address in the first box, V100 in the second box and the third box will show two (2) numbers. The first number reflects the reader mode for reader one (1) and the second number reflects the reader mode for reader two (2).
- To test the setup, present the card to the reader followed by the four (4) digit pin. The pin is a four (4) digit number that has been assigned in the Pin field for the card holder record.
Configuring Card Only
- From Hardware Manager click on the pad lock icon to allow editing of the Hardware Manager module.
- From the Hardware tree click on the plus sign to the left of the controller to expand the devices listed below the controller.
- Highlight the sub-controller, click on the plus sign to the left of the sub-controller to expand the sub-controller properties.
- Click on the reader. From the readers properties box, click on the drop down arrow to the right of the Default_Reader_Mode tag and select 5 - Card Only.
- Click the floppy disk icon to save changes.
- From the hardware tree, highlight the controller. Right mouse-click on the controller and select Download Manager.
- In the Database column, select Controllers and Devices and uncheck all remaining databases.
- Click begin download. Once the download has completed, the reader mode should be reflected as a 5 in the hardware status screen. This mode is reflected in box three (3) located to the right of the device type.
